Spam Mail: An overview

How Does A Spam Mail Overflow Initiates?

Each day more and more neophytes to the internet hook up their computers and start surfing; as with any other neophyte behaviour would do, they will start by doing a query search on particular items such as school related assignments and other matters that are particularly related or linked to their daily life.

The internets is a powerful magnet and as such, search engines and sheer human curiosity will cause more new surfers to browse a page that they do not know or find amusing.

Sometimes the user will have to “register” to gain access to the website, newly arrived surfers think that it is “safe” to give the email address out, they will register becoming one of the best sources where Spam Mail senders gather their information.

Other sources of email addresses gathering for spammers (a.k.a “address harvesting”) are chat rooms and, of course, the always popular email chains.

When a person that is receiving the unwanted mail with all the good faith in the world activates the link to unsubscribe to the email that he or she is receiving, this will validate the address and encourage the spammer to send more emails of other products, services and different things.

What Are Doing ESPs To Stop It?

Normally, any email service provider (ESP) offers a wide variety of spam filters that are almost entirely devoted to preventing, blocking and filtering those unwanted emails from their email user’s inboxes; nonetheless, they cannot fully filter or prevent unwanted mail to pass through their filters.

This basic procedure has given birth to a wide range of protective measures that are focused to block and prevent the use of the internet mail system to send unwanted emails.

Unfortunately, spammers seem to be one step ahead of the international agencies and offices that are devoted to put a halt by using automatic bots that are designed and built to activate and generate email accounts under different names, so when an email account is flagged as a spam source and deleted from existence, five more take its place.

The counterpart to this is called “captcha” which requires an immediate action or typing of a word, characters or numeric code in order to authenticate a new email account, still spam mail bots are able to circumvent such measures simply by using image-processing software.

Would Gmail Outsmart Microsoft Outlook As Leading Desktop Mail Application?

Would Gmail Outsmart Microsoft Outlook As Leading Desktop Mail Application?

Today, email is the most crucial tool for communication online. The software giant has ruled the email for years. While, its Hotmail is the most popular web email services, Outlook remains the most popular desktop tool for reading and managing the inbox.

Launched in 2004, Gmail had reached the third slot last year. Gmail has provided the rapid advance of online e-mail technology that permits users to check their mails anywhere in the world.

Here, the feature compares Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 with Google’s Gmail.

Search

In Outlook 2007, the Redmond giant greatly improved its search capabilities. It is now driven by Windows Desktop Search and provides fast results. It also searches content from the attachments.

In contrast, Gmail is still much faster than Outlook. Here, the search function works smoothly and checks all the messages including chat messages. Further, users can also search individual folders.

Folders vs. Labels

In Gmail, users can tag their mails through labels. Further, you can tag one mail under multiple labels without copying the message. It seems that the labels are superior than folders and Gmail has more flexible approach towards labeling.

In contrast, Outlook 2007 features color-coded/named categories and Search Folders, which are similar to Gmail. But, as the categories lack correlation, they are not the complete alternative for the folder tree.

Automatically Mail Processing

It seems that Outlook has more choices for diverting messages than Gmail, and provides option for creating rules and fills the relevant information, which is not easy to configure. In Gmail, user can simply set their filter and will affect all the Gmail, regardless of where you access it. But, if you do not have Microsoft Exchange, then the rules will not be incorporated.

Contacts

In Outlook, you have to create contacts manually, whereas Gmail automatically creates contacts based on your email correspondence. Users can pick any address form Gmail by punching Contacts, whereas Outlook also remembers the email addresses that are corresponded, but it stored the information in difficult to access text file called an NK2 file.

Spam Filtering

Gmail comes with default spam blocking, whereas Outlook uses the out-of-the-box Outlook spam filtering.

Storage Space

Gmail provides 6.76 GB storage for no charge or 25GB for /year. Whereas, in Outlook with Exchange, the storage is associated with high price, therefore users are provided in between 100 MB and 2 GB of storage. However, users who use Outlook without an Exchange connection have nothing to worry about the storage but have to transfer data regularly after they hit a couple GB.

Workflow

Outlook allows users to process their email and manage responsibilities. In contrast, Gmail does not offer as many workflow options. For various businesses, Outlook offers expanded feature-set like tasks, task sharing, message flagging, shared contact list, etc.

Discussion

If user is familiar with the Office suite, then it is easy to use Outlook. But, if you are new in the email world then Gmail is a suitable mailing system for the users.

Where did the Spam flag go?

I opened up Yahoo mail today and I noticed the Spam flag (a flame icon) that used to be next to the paperclip and the flag for each message is gone. It was really nice to have so I didn’t have to preview/open any spam. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it an option I can turn back on?

what do you do if a neighbour vandalises your front door because he doesnt like how you decorated it?

I moved into a flat 5 months ago and while everyone else in the building has been really nice an we’ve made friends, the only person who hasn’t is this guy who has been nothing but nasty to me from the first time I saw him. He has never even said "Hi my name is Stuart" just lays right into me, firstly I once left a bag of clothes I was donating to charity (and they were collecting that day) in the hallway tucked under the mail shelf. The next time was because he didn’t like fairy lights I’d put up round my door (the lights in my part of the hallway leave something to be desired) and my door mat. So I cleaned the whole communal hallway, hoovered everything, changed my door mat but left my lights seeing as I and the other tenants liked them. Then this morning at 3AM I was woken up by hearing him attack my front door twice, and by how far up the stairs he went I know it was him for sure. What do I do now? Do i leave it and say nothing? Call the police? Confront him? Vandalise his? :)

Survivor: All-Stars 2 (Part 8)?

Previously on Survivor: 3 members of each tribe were sent to a mysterious new island. On Dasterro, Kenny’s alliance got Neleh, Paschal, and Colby to go. At Portonia, Sandra and Tom chose Chris to join them.
Day 8: The tribes receive tree mail saying that a boat will be sent for the 3 chosen to go. There will also be no Reward due to the twist. The boat comes. The 6 arrive at the new island. Instead of a normal tribe flag with the season’s logo on it, a plain black flag is flying. This creeps the 6 out. A note says that the new tribe will go to Tribal Council in a few hours to vote 2 of the 6 out. Everyone is freaked out. Sandra talks with the Dasterro 3 and tells them that she is willing to turn on Chris and Tom. Neleh, Colby, and Pashcal like this idea very much. However, a problem arises when Chris tells them he’d turn on Sandra and Tom. “Well, either way Tom goes first.” Neleh laughs. However, Tom was nearby getting firewood and overhears this. He rushes to the other members of his tribe to confirm that they’re willing to go to a tiebreaker. He can tell that they’re lying when they say yes. He does the only other thing he can, he tells Neleh, Colby, and Pashcal that he is willing to turn on Sandra and Chris. “Oh my Heck, what do we do!?” Neleh says to her allies. “Their alliance is weak as crap.” Colby says.
Now for your part: Who will be voted out from “Mystery Island”: Colby, Neleh, Sandra, Pashcal, Chris, or Tom? Remember, 2 must go so be sure to include your thoughts for both.

Did BoA send me the wrong card??

I applied for a BoA "Visa Platinum Plus" card and I’ve received it in the mail after many complicated issues just to get it approved. However, it doesn’t say "Visa Platinum Plus". The letter that came with it calls it a "Preferred Visa". The card is white with a red and blue bank of america ‘flag’ logo covering most of it, and says Bank of America in blue letters across the top. It’s a Visa…but is this the same "Visa Platinum Plus" card that I applied for? I don’t see anything "Plus" anywhere on the letter or card itself, and it’s not gray like the one online. The background image is the same, for whatever crazy reason. What is this card, exactly?
I remember reading something a while back (in some of the BoA fine print on the website or something) that there is a rate for "Preferred" card members and one for "Plus" cardmembers. With of course, the Plus seemingly getting the much better APR rates and such. Did I apply for a Plus card and get bumped down to a "Preferred" for some reason? The credit analyst who approved it over the phone gave me a ,000 credit limit on it. I’ve had a gold card for about 2 years now, which has a ,000 credit limit and zero balance (recently paid off, but the card was of course utilized very well and paid a lot over the time…thus the increases, since it started as a ,000 card). I’m still wanting to try to consolidate the BoA gold card credit line (hopefully) into this new one, to get rid of that annual fee with the Gold. The analyst didn’t want to give me much of a limit on the new card, seemingly grudging that I already had the ,000CL on the gold and planned to combine them at some point.
Is this "Preferred Visa" a good card to have…or just one of those "average joe" general credit cards with crappy rates? 0% promo APR through February 2008 closing statement. The fine print states (after the promo) "margin of 12.99 percentage points; this currently results in a 21.24% corresponding APR". I was approved over the phone directly by a credit analyst for a "Visa Platinum Plus"…and it looks like they’ve sent me a *Preferred*. Plus seems to get better rates…Preferred seems to get crappy rates.
Oh yeah, and just so that it doesn’t look like I’m getting another card just for getting it…I am changing the gold card because of a annual fee that I’m sick of, and don’t want to call each year to get "waived".
