Love is wonderful, but there’s no doubt that relationships take work. With celebrities making and breaking up every hour and even politicians like Al Gore admitting they struggle with marriage, it’s wonderful to celebrate those who still are starry-eyed for each other.

If you know a special couple who is about to celebrate an anniversary, why not throw an incredible shindig for them? The event is bound to please the pair more than you can imagine.

For starters, try purchasing some marvelous anniversary decorations. These should be tailored to the twosome’s taste, but you can inject your own personality and style as well.

Of course, make sure you buy a bunch of streamers, banners and balloons. When deciding on colors, feel free to use the couple’s favorites. If the two hues clash with one another, always remember that the colors of love – such as white and red, or pink and silver – will look perfect.

To kick things up a notch, why not do some digging and try and locate a number of old photos of the darling duo? If you can find images from every decade they have been together, try making an impromptu trip out to Kinko’s, enlarging them, and using them as centerpieces. Your lovebirds are bound to go crazy for the idea.

Next, try to find a bunch of anniversary party supplies. These are necessary items, but finding some with special details will turn your soiree into something unforgettable.

For starters, you’re going to need a bunch of paper cups, plates and napkins. Unless you want to be stationed at the kitchen sink doing dishes for hours after guests leave, these are absolutely necessary.
Still, why not try to find some with cute phrases on them? Silverware that says “Congratulations!” or “Love is Eternal” will put a smile on your guests of honor’s faces. If you want to go a simpler route, try finding some that look like the fine china they received at their wedding.

If the couple you’re celebrating has been together for more than two decades, you’re really going to want to pay special attention to the details. Luckily, 25th anniversary party ideas are easy to come by.

For instance, when purchasing party supplies, make sure this special number is adorned all over them. Balloons and streamers that boast this important digit should be placed all around the room.

It isn’t so much the meowing, but the door banging, and ripping up the carpet and causing actual damage (we rent) that I’d like to try to correct. He’s an 8 month old neutered longhair, by the way.

I’ve read other questions like mine, and lots of people recommend using a squirt bottle at the door when the cat starts with his early morning serenade. One problem–my cat isn’t bothered by the squirt bottle at all! You can spray him and spray him on the mist setting right on the nose or with the jet setting on his rear and he’ll just stare you down. After this kind of "discipline" I have a naughty, newly-sodden cat.

He also doesn’t seem worried by citrus smells. He hates wintergreen and other kinds of mint so I started spraying the corner of the door where he "digs" in the carpet with peppermint. This used to deter him, but now he’s figured out that the mint won’t "hurt" him so we’re back to square one.

He’s my little cat-son, and he’s a part of our family. I can’t imagine our lives without him, actually, so please don’t tell me I have to give him to a "loving home" as if our love and care for him is somehow insufficient. The only reasons why he doesn’t sleep with us is that he loves knocking over our water glasses (boy has a water fetish, I tell you), our desk lamps, and getting in the wires behind the TV set.

Do any of you have any suggestions about what to do about his "digging" especially? Some have recommended putting a car mat upside down with the pokey parts upward so the cat isn’t comfortable stepping on it. It seems like a cat would be too smart to step on the parts that are uncomfortable, and would just try digging under the mat! Has anyone tried this?

Please help if you can, I’d love it if my husband didn’t have to get up at 6am to the sounds of the carpet being torn up.

Do you know how many people have tried desperately to get back together with someone they have broken up with only to fall flat on their faces and realizing, in hindsight, how humiliating all the frantic ploys they tried were?  Rekindling a romance that fizzled out is fraught with danger.  Not the kind of danger that may kill you unless you consider rejection a life threatening possibility.  The danger here is having your heart broken piece by piece after each thing you do in getting the one you love back does not work. 

However, it is not fair to say that getting back together with an ex is not something in the realm of possibility.  The fact is, there is always a chance, even if it is just a sliver of it, of two people getting back together after a break up.  People have dished out advice on the things you should do in order to make this happen, but have you ever given a thought to the things you should NOT do when getting the one you love back?

1. Do not pick up that phone.  Calling every few minutes to “just say ‘hi’ and see how you are doing” is not going to win you any points.  It can be downright irritating to get persistent calls or even text messages from an ex when all the other person wants right now is some time and space.  When your ex is ready to talk, then make the effort to have an honest and open face-to-face conversation.

2. Do not go into stalker mode.  Casually bumping into your ex at the mall or grocery is one thing but “accidental” meetings in places all over town, especially in places you used to frequent, is downright creepy.  As with the first “NOT” tip, give your ex some breathing room.  Following him or her around like a little lovesick puppy will make him or her realize that breaking up with you was the RIGHT thing to do.  Do not wait until your ex takes one look at you, turns around, and runs away to make you realize that stalking is not a good idea.

3. Do not be a slave to love.  In your desperation to get back into the good graces of your ex, you may be tempted to do his or her every single biding.  Stop yourself right there.  A relationship is about being equal partners, not about having a slave who does everything the other person wants and agrees with every single thing that the other person feels, thinks, and says.  No one wants to be with an overly agreeable person.  It may seem like a dream come true in the beginning but that dream will soon turn into a nightmare when the resentment starts to seep in at you being a doormat of sorts and the other person being bored with a “yes man”.

Getting the one you love back will take time and hard work but if you feel that your ex is worth it and that life was much better with him or her in it than out of it, then roll up your sleeves, remain focused, and keep the faith alive.
