I am doing a research paper on the American Flag being a symbol for our culture. I have included stories of famous American Flag references, but I am looking for something in pop culture such as…

Famous song about American Flag(not the Star Spangled Banner, I have it…)
Famous picture or art
Famous clothing or something like that
Famous anything that has to do with the American Flag! That I can at least write five sentences on.

Please and thank you, I appreciate it.

As a design and logo fan, with training in the conceptual design field, one cannot help but wonder if both had went to the same graphic design firm/agency.

Obvious:

• Both the Bucs and Cavs’ teams must dedicate millions to their design budget and public relations. It’s all about the fans and the dollars they spend on apparel.
• Both share a logo that depicts a sabre hoisting a flowing banner/flag in a non-static, forward-moving energy. Tampa’s sabre and flag depicts a skull while Cleveland’s brandishes their "C".

[Google Search: Tampa Bay Buccaneers + helmet logo & Cleveland Cavaliers + logo.]

but….

Q:

♦ did someone not notice the glaring similarities between them?

..Supposedly the only saving grace to promote uniqueness is that these similarities are separated by a different sport.
..Any graphic designers, give a shout out if you noticed this and better yet if you know of their respective design teams.
Further details noted are that the Cavs at least offer variances of their sabre logo, either slicing through the text ‘Cavaliers’ or through a basketball. Mentioning other details is to belabor the obvious.

the American flag is covering up the crescent moon of Islam?

Maybe I’m still in my deployment mentality, but if you look at the Google site, the logo has been modified to replace the L with the American flag. Behind the flag is a dark cloud with the sun shining through near the flag, but dark clouds surrounding the tail of the E, causing it to look like the crescent moon which symbolizes the Islamic religion. I’m by no means anti-Islamic, but it appears to me as though the sun-streaked flag of the US is blotting out the storm-riddled crescent of Islam. Do you see this too? Does it look like it may have been done on purpose?
For clarification, I’m not what most would consider an Islamophobe. I don’t care, I don’t care. I just thought it looked odd, and wanted to get other opinions on it.

Surviving a blacklisting attempt by Google

What does it feel like to have your company’s website hacked into by strangers? Some hackers just do it for the trophy value, and don’t really end up doing any actual harm. But when they do intend to leave their mark, as it were, replacing the messages and information you painstakingly placed on your website with vandalized messages, it can really feel like a personal blow. But this is a situation that is quite easy to fix after all. What happens after such an attack Google somehow decides to punish you for the attack warning visitors that the website “may harm your computer”?

As awful as that seems, this isn’t all that rare a situation. It happens to small companies and also large companies all the time. What is it that makes Google flag you down as chronically unsafe? Usually it isn’t just a couple of instances of having hackers barge their way in – it is repeated security compromises that do that. And when you are on Google’s blacklist, getting off it can be extremely difficult. Consider the case of Gensyslogic , a Taiwanese maker of the WebCams you find in notebook computers. Their website is their main source of contact with their customer base, and it was hacked two times in one month. It made it very difficult for them to keep in touch with the companies they dealt with, and it hurt their reputation, but they felt that they could just beef up security of it and put it behind them – until Google noticed what was going on and placed a “this site may harm your computer” stamp on the website. They’ve been pleading with Google ever since to be taken off the blacklist. To a small company, this kind of loss of reputation can often put them out of business.

Of course everyone really hates Google for punishing them for something that is not really their fault; but Google tries hard to help businesses protect their websites from such a fate. They have plenty of thoughtful features and services on their Webmaster tools webpage that help. Here is a short checklist of their pointers as an example of kind of usable information they have of how a business website could protect itself from attacks.

Study closely at all the plug-ins from external sources that you use on your website. Make sure that your plug-ins come from reputed software companies.
Try the search string site: on Google to see what shows up. If anything seems not familiar, you need to look get suspicious.
If you could get yourself a Google Webmaster ID, you could get notifications about possible weak areas, about new updates for the software you choose, and custom notifications about any suspicious activity on your website. This should give you a heads up before anything heads for serious trouble.
Website development and designing, make sure that you make the server’s directory permissions, authentication and encryption all locked and invulnerable.
Make sure that you keep a detailed log of your server’s activities. And make sure that you use only SSH and SFTP for data transfers.

Of course, there is always a basic level of protection you need to take complete responsibility for – with great firewall software and antivirus. Most companies who get hacked usually have obsolete antivirus and other such problems. Why any business would take a chance with losing out on Google’s graces is difficult to say. Especially when it’s usually pretty simple to stay ahead of the hackers.

Guaranteed Google Rankings – Are Seo Companies Telling The Truth?

Many new and old online businesses alike have had their share of struggles to get top rankings in the major search engines, but none greater the woe than with Google. With Google controlling most of the world’s share of search traffic it’s no wonder so many entrepreneurs online are clawing desperately at the number one rankings. Despite that gut feeling, in times of desperation seeing the words “Guaranteed Search Engine Rankings” any one of us can become guilty of a hasty decision in a declining economy.

While you have probably already read that guaranteed rankings are a scam online in a previous SEO article from another author at one time or another, what I have to say may defer a bit from what you have read. I am here to say guaranteed Google rankings are actually easily achieved by SEO companies and are achieved for their clients everyday! Actually I encourage you to find a company offering this kind of guarantee, but not until you know the scam aspect of it first and how to combat it.

Scam #1

So then what’s the problem you may be wondering? Well truthfully it is pure marketing genius on their part, but pure agony for the client. You see, these SEO companies are ranking you in Google, Bing, and Yahoo first page or number one positioning for keywords related to your website, but the real situation lies in the keywords they choose and the competition for these keywords. The keywords are usually long tail keywords that get very little traffic and with little traffic, even less to no traffic to your site.

Quite easily they get away with this for one simple reason, it’s profitable for them. The easy lure of desperation isn’t enough though, it is through the use of extended 6 month or more contracts that you become their personal cash cow and are forced through this contract to continue paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars until the term ends. The contract will blatantly state that they promise to get you top rankings for the term of the contract and in your desperation you can really only blame yourself.

Scam #2

This is pretty much an addition to the scam in #1 however this is where you actually are aware of the keywords to be targeted before the contract signing. They actually persuade you to believe that these are the only keywords you can possibly ever rank for without a multi million dollar budget. They are partially true in this aspect, you have millions of dollars you can easily rank for anything, but the reality is you are better off holding off on immediate results and making a plan for the long haul for keywords that actually will bring in those coveted online customers. Again, your desperation is your ultimate self sabotaging vice that will bring you down.

Scam #3

Okay, now this actually isn’t as much as a scam as it is a reality check for you, the SEO consumer. The guaranteed rankings offered by some of these companies actually may try their best for you to get your keyword rankings but fail. In this case you get your money back but will have wasted months waiting on a search engine optimization company that couldn’t deliver and how much money is that really worth to you? Also beware, in a desperate attempt to please you and keep their money, they may want to try on a black hat which can get you banned from the search engines.

How to Win At Their Own Game

I just want to add something here really quick before I give you these business saving tips. Many SEO companies are legitimate, including those offering guaranteed rankings. I am not trying to say these companies with these offers are evil pick pockets. Much of the confusion can easily be attributed to the uneducated customer. So be kind to these people, but don’t be a gullible consumer either. We are all working hard to make a living and the chances are they don’t think of it as ripping you off.

1. First and foremost, do your own keyword research first. This is easily done by going to the Google Keywords online. It’s 100% free and you do not need to be signed up to use this service. There you can see what different keywords you can target as well as the monthly traffic they bring in.

2. Make the company agree to your keywords. Now there may be times you are aiming a bit too high for a realistic goal and it is in this case the packaged price that enticed you in the first place can go up significantly to get the results you want. Like I said earlier, millions of dollars can get you ranked for anything in a short amount of time, but then you aren’t reading this because you have a lavish budget, are you.

3. I would say avoid contracts, but in the case of a guaranteed ranking, you are not going to rank overnight, or in a couple of months even. Your best defense against getting the short end of the stick is to sit on the contract for a while. Read it twice a day for a few days and frequently call and discuss with them anything that may raise a flag of concern before signing. If necessary, have them redraft the contract to your specifications.

4. Make sure your keywords are specifically stated in the contract. You can easily agree to keywords in email and over the phone, but without it on the contract you may find it hard to prove your case if you ever end up in a court battle.

5. Research their customers and get as extensive of a customer list as possible. While many clients may wish to remain anonymous for obvious reasons, they should at least have a few clients you can reference from. Ask how many of their previous clients are still with them today. Anything less than 70% should raise a flag for you. A satisfied customer stays with a company.

6. Do not expect overnight results or miracles. SEO is a strategy, a long term one at that. If you want immediate gratification, then perhaps you should read another article about PPC advertising instead. If you have time expectations, make sure you make them clear to them and have them add the timeline within the contract.

Getting to the First Page Of Google Search Results

Using Keywords The Profitable Way.

There are a lot of, so called experts, out there telling people that it is hard to get on the first page of Google search results.

Let me tell you now that this is not the case but you do need to know what you are doing for you to have a good result.

I have set up a Company called Melbourne Web Marketing to put this myth to bed once and for all and will expose the truth below.

The real power is in the Keyword Research. If you use the wrong keyword (one that no one is searching for) you are wasting your time. I can tell you it is FAR Simpler to Market something that the public is actually searching for.

Toooooo many people, with the intention of making money on the internet, go out and find a product which they go around selling and attempting to drive traffic to. Most of the time the product is not something anybody else is interested in and they fail.

NOTE: Remember what you like does not matter, let the public tell you what they like.

Please remember that the best results are obtained from products that the public wants. Force selling (I call it this when you have a product that YOU THINK others will want) is the hardest type of selling. The reason is that you have to make the potential client think your product is something he can not do without, even though he might not need it. Not a simple task these days.

Would Supply selling (the selling of a product that is a problem fixer with a hungry market) not be simpler?

The bottom line is that ALL the people on the internet are of one frame of mind – “What’s in it for me”. This is so great, as we simply find a problem and the solution and bring the solution to the public’s attention.

Doing your research and finding an issue will give you the base keywords. From there you simply do some in-depth keyword phrase research and filter the non-payers. I love this bit as it is the part that makes you money or makes your fail.

Once you have your most profitable and highly searched for keyword phrase you need to see if any of them can be found as an available domain name. Don’t worry if it is not available as you can make minor changes and still get the full benefit from this action.

Take this as a sample: “Conscious Living” was the main keyword for one of my clients. It was not available so I suggested he go with “about conscious living”. He still got the full benefit from the keyword phrase and a domain name he could use and show relevancy to Google.

To power your way to the first page of Google search results you need to take it a few steps further. You also need to pay attention to the following areas.

Website Title:

This is the first (Blue) line of text that Google displays in the search results. If the persons search term is in your Website Title Google will compensate you. This means that if you have the same words in your title your result will have the keyword highlighted. This makes it stick out more to your potential customer, catching you more traffic, as it catches their eye.

Website Description:

This is the next 160 characters that Google displays in black text within the search results. Treat this text the same as the Website Title. With your keyword in this text it will be highlighted by Google and will make it stick out.

Remember that this is your location to make your potential visitor take note of your site. This can only be done by having compelling text which should include your main keyword phrase not be stuffed full of it resulting in text that does NOT make any sense to the person reading it.

Once your 160 characters are used and you have more text in your Description most search engines will use “…” to indicate more is available. You could use this to your advantage by ensuring you state all of your main benefits within the text and starting a new sentence that will only partially show but sparks the potential customer’s curiosity.

Website Text:

Use the main keyword phrase throughout the text so that Google can see “Relevancy” in your content. Keeping it between 3-6% is good. Going higher could result in your site being flagged as SPAM by Google and you might as well forget that domain name, if that happens, as you will have problems getting rid of this flag.

By the way I found that if you have the keyword in there too often, the text doesn’t read well and in most cases will make your potential customer go elsewhere anyway. This means you would lose two ways, lose your customer and get flagged as a spam site.

Yes the sample used above is an actual task and resulted in position 5 & 6 out of 5,040,000 results.

I trust that this information assists you and that you now become someone that finds solutions to problems not force sells what you think the market wants to buy.

Why Google Is Not To Blame Your Lousy Rankings

Here is some of the work spiders do on the world wide web. First of all spiders are software, and each search engine has its own spider.

These software called spiders determine where a website rank for particular keywords. They are the thing that indexes your website in the search engines.

The main role of these software is to crawl webpages, to provide the search engine customers, with the best possible results. The customers are the users that use the search engines.

These software are installed with special features, with their main role to find certain elements inside a website. These elements may include meta tags, number of backlinks, how old a wbesite is, the keyword density and a lot of other in depth details. Some of these are not revealed to search engine optimizers or anyone else. The search engine programmers keep this secret.

These factors are created just as a way for these software to find the best websites. Since there are millions of websites, these spiders goal is to present the results for a particular keyword, starting from the best all the way down to one thousand results. That is the maximum number of results any search engine displays.

In fact if you try it out, click on page one then page two, three and so on, you will see a message on page hundred where results end.

So, all the spiders do is help the users who are searching this giant collection of websites on the web. You as an search engine optimizer, want to give search engines what they want.

That is how they rank your website in the top. By giving them what they are looking for, your website becomes the best possible solution for the keyword the user is looking for.

Keep that in mind, because that is the ultimate reason why you are doing search engine optimziation.

Here are the factors that will index your website if spiders see them.

If you have a brand new website, spiders do not know about it yet. But if you start getting backlinks, than it raises a flag to the spiders. They will find your backlinks if they are on indexed websites, follow those links and arrive on your website. Then start visiting your website pages.

The more backlinks they find, the more flags you raise as a signal that your website exist and should be indexed. That is the language you must communicate with the spiders to index your website.

No worrying, no complaining and definitely not using the add url submission form the search engines have. The submission form was simple created because they were being contacted by the millions of new websites everyday. Everyone wanted their website indexed, so to stop all those emails from every website, they created the submission form.

They will not review each website one by one, that is for sure. Spiders does the indexing automatically.

What about the factors that improve your search engine rankings.

That is a big question to answer, because the factors are vast. However the obvious factor is the number of backlinks you have. Then there are many other factors like the type of backlinks, the quality, the pagerank of the website your link is on and the list is very long.

However, the good news is that you do not want to know all that stuff, even though it helps. As a search engine optimizer, you need to get backlinks. It does not matter what type, just the more you get the better.

Hopefully now you know that behind the search engines, there is not god preferring a website instead of the other because the owner is a relative. You need to make friends with the software called spiders.

Search engine optimization (seo) tactics can be used by every marketer to drive traffic towards his website from the search engines.
