So I asked a question about what a good book to learn about evolution would be to read. I asked it in the Science > Biology category because it seemed most appropriate. Two minutes later I refreshed the page to see if I had gotten a response and my question had been deleted. Does Y!A have bots that delete questions based on some criteria? I don’t know why a person would have flagged it and it got deleted that way. In my opinion it in no way violated any community guidelines. Was this glitch or does Y!A have some weird keywords that will get questions auto deleted by bots?
Um Okay, so I just got an email saying I received an answer to the question that was deleted. I clicked on the link in the email and sure enough there was my question with an answer. So WTF Y!A! Wasn’t you supposed to have your site down for maintenance earlier today to fix all these glitches? I guess you still need to do some work on them huh.

10 Email Etiquette Tips

One of the most prevalent means of modern communication is electronic mail (e-mail); the ability to send messages from 1 person to recipients via the pc. This media has been widely abused and misused with the largest blame going to lack of information of issues to avoid when using email. You will find issues that individuals do while using this facility that drive the bulk of the recipients up the wall. You will find a huge selection of does and don’ts therefore in this write-up I single out a couple of essential problems pertaining to e-mail usage. I’ve used emails for over a decade. This is one of the greatest methods to talk but like any other facility, it is topic to abuse and mis-use. Abuse has always been seen to arrive out circumstances exactly where purpose of the facility is unclear. E-mail is with us for some time to come therefore there is need for users to apply etiquette to ensure that everyone using it enjoys performing so.

E-mail Ideas:

1. Open emails speedily and reply – It is very frustrating to send email messages and not get a single reaction. One will start to wonder if the emails did even go through or they are simply delayed. Responding to an e-mail isn’t necessary to verify that you simply have study all attachments etc. You are able to respond to merely talk that you have received and you’ll read in greater detail at a later time. It provides the sender a piece of thoughts. While I’m encouraging you to open email messages speedily, physical exercise caution on suspicious subjects and accessories lest your machine gets to become contaminated with viruses.

2. be clear what you wish to talk – Lengthy winding emails never get the consideration from the reader. Get towards the level quicker to make sure individuals study and understand your point with the least quantity of phrases. I’m not advocating that you begin to use slang and shorthand on e-mail. People have just turn out to be busy owing to improve in demands in the workplace and life in common. Your topic should match that which you have within the message body and attachment. Avoid deceiving people through enticing subject and body text however the attachment falls short of expectations. Always ensure you spruce up your email, double check to see if all you wanted to say has been said. It is annoying to write four times about the same subject while adding a little bit more info with every e-mail. People will have a tendency to wait for model four of one’s email usually if they notice a trend. Be clear within your e-mail if it for someone’s info or for their action.

3. Organize and manage your email messages – Whenever you are organized, you turn out to be more efficient with your emails therefore it becomes an exciting experience. The first thing I do as I open my mailbox is to select all spam or junk mail and flag it as such and trash instantly. I also create folders to store emails in different categories. To automate the process of archiving, I produce email rules that help to put email messages into various folders without my interference. Email messages that I don’t discover worth in are immediately deleted as well to make way for helpful. You will definitely discover that doing this will allow you to deal with a huge selection of emails without any sign of fatigue. To avoid forgetting to follow-up on email messages, I usual flag the email messages as Unread to ensure that they maintain drawing my attention. It helps me stay on the ball as I cannot stand unread email messages for too lengthy. I get shocked when I see individuals with 400 unread messages, important messages are hidden among the not so helpful email messages therefore deadlines are missed, appointments are postponed and so on.

4. Watch out the way you deal with – Know who you’re sending the message to, who’re you carbon copying (cc) for info and who’re you blind carbon copying (bcc) meaning they receive a copy of the e-mail and however other recipients don’t get to know about it. When distributing a newsletter or emailing in to a huge selection of people, usually place addresses beneath bcc. The sending of unsolicited emails across the entire web is simply because people reveal the addresses of other people unnecessarily. It can be annoying. Similarly, within the occasion that you simply receive an email from someone which was copied to 5 other people, use the reply choice to deliver a reaction towards the sender not reply all. Reply all will deliver your response to everyone who obtained the e-mail. Use reply all in situations where it is absolutely essential.

5. E-mail Formatting and Accuracy is very important – It is important to note that email is merely a replacement from the usual hand written letter in the old days. People utilized to become very cautious with how their letters had been formatted before. Now, even with tools and utilities obtainable to format emails nicely, examine spelling, grammar and so on, people still send raw, erroneous email messages to recipients. Usually examine for spellings to ensure you communicate that which you originally intended to say. It’s simple to communicate the opposite. Scanning your e-mail utilizing your eyes only won’t help you remove errors your thoughts are blind to. Sometimes walking away from the e-mail and coming back again after a couple of minutes will reveal to you all of the error. Refrain from typing in ALL YELLING CAPS or all lazy small letters as each talk an attitude. Steer clear of numerous colors on your email messages. It isn’t concerning the decorations and background but the concept. Steer clear of emoticons as much as feasible especially on company related email messages. Funny looking fonts can be annoying as they make somebody take longer to study an email. Steer clear of them.

6. Appropriate Attachment Management is essential – From time to time you might want the recipient to have access and connected file. Do not presume that all recipients have the exact same version of programs to open the accessories. Save attachments in a format that can be opened by any model of program the recipient may have. Huge file attachments require to be compressed for ease of movement. Some server’s truncate huge accessories hence your information does not get obtained. Always deliver a separate e-mail to confirm receipt of huge accessories. Not everyone has a high speed internet connection to download. By no means assume that simply because you know the sender of the e-mail you are able to trust their accessories. Viruses generally come attached to emails hence exactly where the receiver’s machine is vulnerable with no virus protection, it gets infected right after attachment is executed or opened.

7. be cautious with those Forwards – Assess the benefit or usefulness and validity of an e-mail prior to forwarding to others. Some “special offers” etc are merely hoaxes or spam. You may not know what the emails will trigger within the individuals you send to. The high quality and types of emails you peddle have an impact on how people view you. Always take the time to kind a private remark to accompany the email so that the individual receiving knows you have read and what you want them to do. If you can’t kind the comment they you shouldn’t bother forwarding. Be careful to forward email messages of a political or sexual nature. People getting the email may not appreciate your “generosity”. In companies I worked for, we agreed that anyone discovered peddling nudity and sexual humor would be banned totally or face disciplinary action. Non business material is a waste of company resource. You might not have originated the message but becoming seeing forwarding 30 messages (even inspirational ones) a day seems outrageous. Avoid mass mailing individuals who didn’t ask you for that service. I know how I feel when I get those mass mailed items hence I don’t seek to complete it to other people.

8. Practice email courtesy – Within the occasion that you simply send a concept which you then understand is a hoax, be courteous enough to send an apology. Do not add insult to injury by responding in anger, merely clarify what you meant. There’s no cause for utilizing the e-mail program to fight wars of phrases. There’s no such time to waste. Before you get upset more than “people not replying”, kindly examine your trash or junk-mail folder in case replies had been automatically archived in error.

9. Handling Emotional e-mail – Emails you write while emotionally charged occasionally lead to regrets. Unlike a letter which right after writing you’ve time with it prior to you reach the postboxes; once you hit deliver in most cases it’s tough to recall the concept. Usually step back and ask yourself if the reaction you’re giving will probably be consistent the following day. Wait till that day and deliver the message. You will realize that a lot of spikes will fall off as they mis-communicate or trigger the recipient to develop a communication barrier. Human beings are emotional beings. Any statement you say can easily have 8 different connotations becoming read by 8 various individuals because they are largely from different background and experiences. They also have varying levels of emotional strength. Be wary of statements that may trigger the opposite sex to stumble this kind of as “Much Adore, Miss you, Plenty of hugs and kisses”. Be sensitive towards the recipient.

10. Final Advice – Just simply because you’ve a person’s e-mail deal with doesn’t mean you can share it anyone. If anyone desires the email they should look for it on their own. Steer clear of utilizing your company email address on the web subscriptions. Use your private address as company email deal with ought to be for company only. Safeguard your email by forwarding a copy to your private address. Even if your machine gets stolen or damaged, you’ll nonetheless possess a backup of one’s emails. You by no means know whenever you will need the evidence of you having sent an e-mail. It may be the e-mail that you simply use to exonerate yourself from being charged or sentenced inside a court of law. When using your business e-mail to deliver a contribution or opinion, usually consist of a disclaimer that shows that your view isn’t that of your employer otherwise use private email address to send personal views and mindsets. The final thing you ever require is for your employer’s domain to be blacklisted.

Ever since I started this job it has been confusing as hell. I was lied to in the interview about my duties and now I am stuck. I am a PA/Receptionist/Admin Assistant. But my duties mainly consist of making coffee, being a door mat and bringing in the garbage cans. None of my 13 years of experience are being used. My boss is a jerk who does stupid things all day long, but the minute you make one mistake you hear it forever. She and the Office/HR manager are also ploting things behind my back. They have pulled similar scams with 3 other girls before me. They only plan to keep you for a year then build up things against you so when the "let you go" you can’t get unemployment. I want to leave but because I am new I don’t have anytime to do an interview. I feel stressed and stuck. I can’t walk off because I have a family to consider. What would you do in my situation?
The biggest thing that I notice is that I am the only African American in the company. I know the first thing people will say is " oh she is pulling the race card" but it is constantly brought to my attention any racial or ethic things that go on in the "black neighborhoods" Like one day she says to me "why are your people killing each other?" I just ignore it and chalk it up to ignorance.

The type of mistake I was talking about was one day I sent her an email and mistakenly left the "e" out of management. I hear about it everyday and I’m told " I can’t trust you with big things because im afraid that you will make mistakes like with the email….blah blah. She will purposly do things to try to catch me up. She doesn’t know that I know all about what she has done to the girls before me. I just can’t get the proof because it is in confidential records. I could get into alot of trouble even if I use it as evidence to any lawyers. I’m afraid for myself.

I have time in june to look.

I am recently married man (3 months) My wife is gorgeous and very good person so far. Our sex life is really great. But recently I learned about her past that have affected me so much. It affected me to the point that I am now wandering off and have been seeing other women. I feel that I am rebelling against the idea of who she was.

Even before marriage I know that my wife has a checkered past. She has been in serious relationships with married men. The mere fact that my wife was a constant "other woman" already sends tingle in my spine. It took me weeks to get over that fact. To me everybody deserves love just as long as they have seen what was wrong with it BESIDES maybe that was a product of her youth. She told me it was a few years back (4 years) But lo and behold I recently found out that in the last year alone (we were not dating yet) All she dated were married men!! (4 to be exact) Worst a wife of those men is still hounding her. Saying bad things about her. Frankly I think she deserves it but I never told her because she will get hurt. But it still bother me up to this day. I can’t tell her that because we fought over it and we agreed never to touch the subject again. She already pleaded not to judge her. But I feel worst everyday. She swore she has been straight in our relationship but saw one of her email giving her flying schedule (she’s a flight attendant) for the month to a married guy she used to sleep with. She swore to me nothing happened and never met up with the guy. But from that day on I began to rebel. I told myself I too can play the game. I have been constantly seeing other women behind her back.

I truly love her but I can’t seem to grasp that a beautiful person inside and out like her can be a reckless home wrecker before. The way I see it now if I get caught (she is possessive by the way – ironic isn’t it?) all I have to say that of all people YOU should be the one to understand this. I know it is wrong for me to do this but this is the only time I feel I can take what her mindset was. Dealing with wives of her relationships is not helping either. If I know myself my meandering ways will die down eventually.

What should I do? I know there are red flags all over the place but I really wanted this relationship to work. What should be the next logical thing to do? Are we gonna implode? I really love her. I really want other people’s opinion about this. This is something really new for me.

The Ins and Outs of Email Marketing

Email marketing is one of the most efficient ways of increasing your business. For those of you who haven’t started an email marketing campaign, you need to begin one immediately. This marketing tool, which enables you to stay in communication with your clients, offers tremendous advantages that will help your enterprise prosper. This is the exact secret that is being used by every successful Internet marketer to make money and grow their business on the long term. The surest way to raise your online income is to go through the steps outlined in this article, where the operations of an email marketing campaign will be explained.

One of the most important things to remember is that you want your title to be catchy and memorable. Remember, you don’t have a long time to catch the reader’s attention, only a few seconds and that’s all. If it doesn’t catch their attention, it is either passed over or deleted. Your subject line should therefore name a specific advantage that will appeal to the reader and encourage him or her to read the message. For instance, rather than “Diet Tips”, you might have “6 Diet Tips to Make you Look Sexier”. This is a much better and eye-grabbing title. The next thing you have to do is make sure your content starts with something very interesting. Why? Some of the most widely used email clients, such as Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo! Mail, etc. have a “preview pane” that allows a reader to view just a narrow strip of an email message without actually opening it. In addition, you need your efforts to remain consistent throughout your email marketing campaigns. It’s imperative to ensure that your email is consistently sent out at a regular time. If you decide that your email will be sent out every Thursday at 11 am, stick to it. You email subscribers will come to expect your email to arrive at a certain time, and you should respect that. When you do this, you build up your credibility. With enough credibility, your customers will be more than willing to respond to your promotional emails when you send those out. Consistency is an important trait, which demonstrates your professionalism, when it comes to your dealings with your email subscribers.

Another critical step is to make sure that your subscribers are receiving the emails and that they’re not simply being sent to the junk folder. Observe your subject line and see if it will work in the proper way. To do this, familiarize yourself with the words that most spam filters look for. Once you know the words to avoid, you can ensure your emails get to the right place. Examples of words to avoid include ‘Earn Money Now’ or ‘Free.’ Finding information on additional words to watch out for is just a Google search away. These sites can also give you a “spam score” so you can tell how likely your email will be targeted as spam. Also, aside from the subject line, the content of your email is another place that should not contain words that will flag your email as spam. But you need to take extra measures with the content of the email. You need to be careful of the links you include. And domains that get heavily promoted land up in the spam folder. If the spam filter is triggered by a domain link, the email is blocked completely. But there is a workaround to this, and that is to cloak your links with another domain so that you can fly under the radar. To build a successful campaign, you need to spend time working on each critical piece. Each step, from selecting to whom to send your email, what words to include in your email, and even how to send it, will play a part in building a successful campaign. Therefore, focus on the best practices and take care that all the important factors are in place and in turn your campaign should be very successful.

25 Ways to Improve your E-mail Marketing

I suppose I can title this article “25 Email Marketing Mistakes I’ve Made.” But rather than focus on the negative, below I’ve outlined the best practices I’ve come to adopt over the years. Hope you find something here useful.

Diversify your Content: If your entire email focuses on one product, service, or topic, you risk alienating all but the few people who will be interested. Unless you have segmented your database based on previous behavior, do not send an email on only 1 topic. I consistently find that the click through rate increases in proportion with varied content.

Don’t Stress about Spam Words: Many experts will tell you to avoid words like “free” or “sale”. In my opinion, ISPs tend to be moving away from content based spam filtering in favor of reputation based filtering. In other words, your sending IP address and from email are more important than whether or not your email contains certain words. Personally, I’ve used words like “free” in the subject line without any affect on delivery rates.

Make it Readable with Images Disabled: Always take into account the appearance of your email with images disabled. For email clients such as Outlook, this is now the default feature. Even popular web mails like Hotmail now disable images unless the sender is in the address book of the recipient.

The best tactic to create readable emails with images block is use an alt description.

Create an Online Version: Always provide an online version of your email for users having trouble viewing images. I’ve calculated from emails I’ve sent in the past that around 5% of users will use this feature.

Remove Inactive Subscribers: Inactive subscribers are the most likely to get you in trouble by clicking the SPAM button. Consider automatically removing a subscriber that hasn’t opened an email in several months.

Proofreading: Always have every email proofread by at least 2 detail oriented people. There’s nothing more embarrassing than a typo in an email blast.

Monitor Replies: When you send out thousands of emails, you’re bound to get a few replies. Occasionally, you’ll get some good feedback from your subscribers. In addition, some people reply with unsubscribe requests.

Unsubscribe at Top: I know what you’re thinking, “At the TOP!?” Yes, at the top. Lazy unsubscribers have a tendency to click the SPAM button instead scrolling down to find the unsubscribe link. By placing the link at the top, you might increase your unsubscribe rate, but that’s better than an inflated SPAM complaint count.

Don’t Over or Under Mail: If you send too much, you’ll get deleted or marked as SPAM. Oddly enough, if you send once every 3 months you may have the same problem. Keep your brand top of mind for your customers by finding the perfect balance between over and under mailing.

Forward to Friend Feature: Many users automatically do this, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. First time potential customers can be very open to company when it is introduced by a friend or colleague.

Subscribe Feature for Forwards: Make it easy for potential new subscribers to subscribe if they receive your email as a forward. Include somewhere in the body a subscribe link.

White List Reminder: If you want your subscribers to add you to their white list or address book, you need to ask. Sure, not everyone will add you.

However, those who do are likely the people who care most about receiving your emails and, therefore, you have the most to lose if your emails get flagged as spam.

Single Click Unsubscribe: I generally recommend keeping the unsubscribe as simple as possible. However, you may want to confirm the action if you place your unsubscribe at the top of every email in case users click the link on accident.

Privacy Policy: Always place your privacy policy at the bottom of every email. Assure customers that you obtained their email address in a legitimate fashion, and you will not sell their personal info.

Don’t Rent Lists: Some may disagree on this, but I’ve never seen anything good come from a rented list. Don’t risk your sender reputation with emails from questionable sources. If you want to reach a new audience, consider a joint venture with another firm in a similar but non-competing industry.

Develop your Brand: Remember that your emails will slowly build your brand in the minds of your subscribers. Even if they never click-through and make a purchase, be sure to keep a consistent and accurate corporate image with your email content.

Call to Action: Each section must contain a specific call to action that avoids vague phrases like “click here.” You’ll be surprised how an effective call to action button or link can improve your click through rate.

Mix Freebies with Products: Too much selling can burn people out. Engage your subscribers with useful, free content. For example, if you sell home theater equipment, send out an article on the explaining the benefits of newer technologies. When you provide additional value to your customers with learning resources, they are sometimes even willing to pay more for your merchandise. In addition, strategies like this keep your brand top of mind.

Find Your “Tuesday”: For the eCommerce sites I’ve worked with, Tuesday morning has always resulted in the best open, click-through, and conversion rates. However, every company is different.

Same Day, Same Time: Be consistent in the time you send your emails for two reasons. First, the ISPs see inconsistency as a possible SPAM flag. Spammers can care less when they send out mass emails. Second, your customers will begin to anticipate your emails at a certain time each week, possibly increasing the likely hood of them opening and clicking through.

Keep the Good Stuff above the Fold: Remember that many email clients will obscure a large portion of your email unless the user scrolls down. Make sure the top 400 pixels are as engaging as possible. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to send artwork back to the design department because the top of the email failed to grab your attention.

A/B Test 1 Variable at a Time: It took me far too long to learn this. For years, I would change several factors in each successive email blast, but never could find that perfect mix. If you really want to find out what works, you can only change 1 variable. For example, should the subject line be short or long? Keep the same content and split your list in 2, sending half a longer subject and the other half a shorter one. Do not change any other variables!

600 Pixel Width: Due to the limitations of many email clients, stick with a width somewhere between 500 to 600 pixels wide.

Experiment with Subject Lines: I wish there was a magic principle I can share with you about subject lines. Unfortunately, there isn’t. The best we can do is test, test, and test again. Sometimes short subjects are better, sometimes long, sometimes intriguing, sometimes urgent, whatever works best for you.

Begin Segmentation & Personalization Now: In a few years, email marketers that don’t practice segmentation and personalization will be left in the dust. There are an endless number of ways to segment your email list. Some popular ways are by purchase behavior, geography, or ordering frequency.

As a long term strategy, I would also greatly encourage researching transactional and trigger based email marketing, as they tend to product much better open, click-through, and conversion rates.

Email Marketing Campaigns and the Dreaded Junk Folder

Email deliverability is the prime concern of any email campaign marketer. A campaign researched and properly targeted is of no value if it is blocked or trashed.

As important as email delivery is, there is another roadblock to an email marketing campaign’s success, not ending up in the junk folder! Your email may get into that “all-important” inbox, but does it remain there, and is it opened? The answer to those two questions can make a tremendous difference when looking to build your ROI from your email marketing campaigns.

There are several different strategies that you can take, helping decrease the chances of your messages either being flagged as spam, or manually put in the junk folder. Here are just a few:

Use your own email address lists: It is tempting to purchase or rent address lists. When doing so, you have no idea of their history or their validity. You end up sending your campaigns to unsolicited prospects, which is never a good thing to do. True consumer interest comes from a list built from opt-in recipients. In other words, your communications have been requested. Take the time to build your own lists.

Avoid the Appearance of Spamming at all Costs: Learn what words and phrases constitute spam. Today, the email client filters are on high alert. Even legitimate email can be labeled as spam and never reach their destinations. Here are some suggestions to think about:

Spam Trigger Words: There are certain words that will set-off spam filters. You need to know the specific words and phrases that identify your email as spam, thus preventing your email marketing campaigns from getting through to your subscribers’ inbox.

Spammy Subject Lines: Studies show that most people glance quickly at two areas of an email when making a decision whether to keep or trash. Those areas are the “from line” and the “subject line.” Within seconds, a decision is made, and it is over. Reduce the chances of your email being labeled as spam by avoiding all the hype and phrases that will trigger the filters. Don’t forget to avoid putting words in all capital letters. Make your subject line inviting and engaging, while remaining true to its content.

Write to the Recipient not to the Sale:

Use a recognized name in the sender’s box.
Explain why they are receiving this email. Maybe they forgot what they signed up for.
Remove hype and exaggerated claims from your content.
Be brief and be honest.
Have a clear call to action – what exactly do you want them to do?
Test all your embedded links before you send.
Avoid using too many graphics. If you use graphics, have them properly optimized.
Don’t make your audience a prisoner, have a clearly defined opt-out alternative.
Most importantly, focus your message on their needs – make it relevant.

Email marketers need to send out professional campaigns that not only have a great appearance, but engage the reader quickly with quality content. Creating effective email marketing campaigns automatically trigger a higher deliverability, while helping increase your open and click through rates, all leading to your desired ROI goals.

Social Spamming – An Email Marketing No-No

I got a call from an email marketing friend of mind just the other day who needed help. Seems I get these kind of calls more and more often – once the folks who have my secret cell phone number find out I know my way around cyber space and that my computer skills go beyond setting up an email account and advanced mouse techniques, then suddenly I become their most trusted (and free) tech support associate.

So, Bill (name changed to protect the family of the guilty) rings me up at 7am, stammering and distraught, unable to string together a sentence of more three words. Immediately I’m thinking horrible tragedy…”Bill, what’s wrong? Did your mother’s kidney transplant go south? Did your son get busted for smoking pot again? Did someone back into your new Jag? No? Well, what then?”

“M-m-m-my Facebook account has been banned!”

“Oh Lord, no-o-o-o-o…. Bill, I’m so sorry.”

Are you laughing? Sure this is kinda funny, but if you use Facebook and other social networking services as part of your email marketing business strategy, getting your account banned can have serious adverse effects when it comes to your email marketing customer and prospect list. If someone tries to access your Facebook page after you’ve been banned, they would receive one of a number of different messages, basically none of which would reflect well on the integrity of your email marketing business. Not so funny.

Fortunately, it is fairly simple to protect yourself from this calamity. If you do happen to get tagged as an email marketing spammer and your account gets banned, there are steps you can take to be reinstated. First and foremost, a sincere email letter of apology and a strong promise to never again do what you did to get banned to start with will go a long way towards being forgiven. The bad news is you really don’t know how long this process will take – it could be weeks or months – and every day that goes by while your account is in banned status adds to the number of customers and potential customers who at least psychologically perceive you as an evil email marketing con artist.

Therefore, be proactive and make darn sure you’re following the rules of of whichever social networking platform you decide to use for your email marketing business. With Facebook, here are three useful pointers:

1. Don’t blast the same message out to everyone on your friends list. This will send up a red flag quickly.

2. Don’t send out too many friend requests at one time. This makes you look like a spammer. How many is too many? Facebook doesn’t specify but typically, twenty at a time is a lot. Gradually build up your friends list over time.

3. Set up a fan page for your email marketing business and identify it as such. This way, people know you’re a marketer before they become your fan, and everything is above board.

Email deliverability is the prime concern of any email campaign marketer. A campaign researched and properly targeted is of no value if it is blocked or trashed.

As important as email delivery is, there is another roadblock to an email marketing campaign’s success, not ending up in the junk folder! Your email may get into that “all-important” in-box, but does it remain there, and is it opened?

You need to know the specific words and phrases that identify your email as spam, thus preventing your email marketing campaigns from getting through to your subscribers’ in-box.
