In Feng Shui the door to your home or business is considered extremely important because, just as our mouths provide energy to our bodies through the food we put in it, so our main door provides energy, or Chi, to our home or business. 

If we feed ourselves junk we get fat, unhealthy and our teeth rot.  Likewise if the Chi coming in through your door is not good your business and your life will suffer.

This aspect of Feng Shui is so important that many Feng Shui consultants will advise moving a door or using a different one in order to harmonise the Chi of a building.  However, this is a drastic measure and best left to the professionals.  Before you go that far there are many things that you can do to attract good Chi.

Make sure it’s easy to get to your door.  If there is a gate it should open easily and any path to your door should be kept free of debris, weeds and pot holes.
Make sure the name or number of the building is clearly visible and also lit when it’s dark
Have a doormat outside the door for people to wipe their feet on before they enter.  Visitors will be literally wipe their energy off on this mat so ensure that it is changed regularly otherwise it will build up stagnant chi at the bottom of your door.
If there is any glass in the door it should be kept clean and sparkling
Paintwork should be kept clean and fresh and any door furniture such as door handles or letter boxes should also be cleaned regularly.

You can also consider Form for your front door.  Form School Feng Shui originally dealt with how a building sits with its external environment: it should have a strong Mountain at the back for support, a Dragon and Tiger at the sides to balance the Yin and Yang aspects of the energy and, together with the Mountain, to harness the Chi obtained from the Phoenix at the front of the building.

Form School Feng Shui can also be applied internally and to your door.  Keeping your path clear and the doormat fresh ensures your Phoenix is bringing good Chi to you.

If the back of your building faces south your most supportive door colour is green and second most supportive colour is red or sky blue.
If the back of your building faces south west or north east your most supportive door colour is red or sky blue and second most supportive colour is brown, yellow or terracotta.
If the back of your building faces west or north west your most supportive door colour is brown, yellow or terracotta and second most supportive colour is white.
If the back of your building faces north your most supportive door colour is white and second most supportive colour is black or dark blue.
If the back of your building faces east or south east your most supportive door colour is black or dark blue and second most supportive colour is green.

Of course, you may have a door that cannot be painted or changed.  However, you can still bring the appropriate colours to this area:

Paint the porch or surrounding frame.
Use correctly coloured pots for your plants that flank the door.
If you have a curtain or blind, have one that is coloured one of your supportive colours.
What colours is your door name or number?
Choose door furniture to represent your supportive colours?
Even your doormat could reflect the right colours for you.
