Like other state and (some) historic flags, the official Georgia state flag has received modifications over the years and decades, ever since it was first displayed from flag poles. Banners and Flag Poles – Holland and Friesland

I have traveled back and forth to the Netherlands for the last few years and it sure is one of my favorite places to visit. This beautiful country consists of a number of the different provinces, that each flies their unique flags and banners. For example, the so called Frisian flag (in Dutch “Friese vlag”), is the official provincial flag of the province of Friesland. This flag displays beautifully from flag poles throughout this respective territory.

The flag as flown from posts and flag poles in modern times consists of 4 blue colored and 3 white diagonal stripes or bands, each band being of the same width. Interestingly, the 3 white stripes display 7 red colored heart-shaped leaves of a water-lily. Since this particular province is quite patriotic, objects of all kinds are modeled after this wonderful flag, including soccer jerseys.

The country of the Netherlands is well known for its location in relation to the sea. Surrounded by the North Sea on both the west and north side of the country, the Netherlands has fought a continuous battle against (sea) water. With a substantial part of the national territory below the actual sea-level, various provinces are protected from the sea through sand dunes and dikes.

The national flag of the Netherlands is (however) significantly different from the Frisian flag. The Dutch national banner is a tricolor type flag, displaying the colors red, white and blue on three equally sized horizontal bands. Fascinatingly, it is one of the oldest tricolors in the world that is still flown from commercial and residential flag poles in our day. Introduced back in 1572, it was not until the 20th century that the Dutch flag was officially adopted as the national flag of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Flags of different countries, including the Netherlands, are available in nylon and polyester for use with flag poles of all kinds. Provincial banners, such as Frisian one, are harder to get however. How To Improve Your Business: From Sales to Street Banners

Owning a business can be tough, especially in this economy. If you own a store, you may have noticed that the flow of customers has all but stopped, if not taken a significant dive. It’s time to drum up some business! Here are some tips on how to rejuvenate your store.

1. Hold a sale. You might be hesitant to dock the price of your wares, but selling something at 25% off is better than not selling it at all. It’s nearly Christmas, so people will appreciate all the money they can save. Single out a few select items that have sold well in the past, or that people have seemed interested in but perhaps didn’t have the right price, and take a few extra bucks off.

2. Advertise, advertise, advertise. This may be the most crucial thing you can do, especially if you decide to go with the sale strategy. How will people know about your amazing deals if you don’t tell them? First, set up an online campaign. If you don’t have a Facebook or Twitter set up for the shop, you’re way behind, so get a move on. If you do, and you’ve decided to go with holding a sale, create a new public event on Facebook outlining some but not all of the details on the sale (leave a little mystery!) and invite everyone you’re friends with. Then tell them to invite their friends and to tell those friends to invite their friends, and so on and so forth. Post the link to the shop’s Twitter account.

Now, take out an ad in the local paper about the sale, and write up a press release to send out to news web sites and blogs.

Put up signs! You don’t need to bombard the public’s eyesight or turn your shop window into a carnival, but some well-placed street banners, custom flags and window graphics will do the trick.

Send out coupon mailers. People, as a rule, hate getting spam. However, they love coupons, and will make a point to stop by the shop to use them. You could even hire a few kids to ride around and stick them in people’s mailboxes.

3. Redecorate (or just decorate) the store. This may seem frivolous, but if your shop is looking a bit woebegone, people aren’t going to want to come in. Make it seem inviting for people on the street, and make sure you deliver on the promise. Commission a local artist or art student to paint your store window for the holidays, and put a festive wreath on the front door. Put up decorations inside as well; if you don’t want to go all out with a tree, a few stockings and bowls of Christmas candy will do just fine.

Banners and Flag Poles – Buck Eye State Flag

The state of Ohio has been one of my favorite states of the United States of America to visit. The unique shaped state’s flag flies wonderfully from flag poles throughout the territory, including other states! Flown and displayed from all kinds of objects since the early years of the 20th century, the flag displays a larger blue triangle with a number of white 5-pointed stars. The triangle is said to represent the hills and valleys that make up the scenery of this beautiful state.

Not only does the Ohio flag display a large blue colored triangle, it also shows 5 bands colored red and white, representing the 5 states that are included in the north-west territory. The seventeen white 5-pointed stars on the state banner symbolize that Ohio was number seventeen of all states being admitted to the Union. The Buck Eye state flag also displays a white circle, which on top shows a red colored round, which represents Ohio’s nickname.

All the other 49 states and their respective flags are rectangular in shape and most of these equally sized. For those that have observed the flag of Ohio attached to flag poles, its proportions are absolutely unique. Interestingly, this banner is considered to be one of only 2 flags in the world with such unique proportions. The other banner being the national flag of the country of Nepal.

Consider being a mid-western state in the United States of America, Ohio is the 34th largest state. Counting nearly 12 million residents, this wonderful state was the 17th territory added to the Union on March 1, back in 1830.

Flags and Banners For Outdoor Use – Polyester Or Nylon?

Every so often questions are asked by customers as to what material they should choose for their new banner. The purpose of this article is to provide a little more information on the above mentioned materials and their application.

Banners have been flown for centuries, if not thousands of years. Fascinatingly, the somewhat obvious purpose of flags has hardly changed over this period of time. For example, battle flags were and are flown as a means to identify and sometimes signal during times of war. The same applies to other types of flags. Interestingly, history takes us across the Pacific Ocean, into the south-eastern area of Asia, where flags were first used many, many years ago.

As mentioned above, flags are commonly produced from nylon and polyester. Based on the material alone, a distinction can be made between in- and outdoor flags. Outdoor flags are often times produced from nylon where indoor flags are commonly made from polyester. However, this rule does not necessarily apply to banners of a bigger size.

There are a few advantages to polyester that are known to those that work with this particular material. Polyester seems to be resilient, meaning that its capacity to deal with deformation / wrinkles as a result of applied energy, is substantial in comparison to other such materials. Another (practical) advantage is its ability to dry quickly. A significant disadvantage to polyester is its flammability however.

Polyester is used for the manufacturing of many other items such as: insulation, plastics, car parts, tapes, etc.
