Should state flags fly above the federal flag?
According to U.S. Historical Documents and the U.S. Constitution the states are sovereign. If that is the case then, except on federal property, I believe that the State flag should fly above the federal flag on flag poles. This is the way I display them at my home. As a military veteran I took an oath to support the constitution-and that includes the 10th amendment and so I fly the flag of my state ABOVE the american federal government’s flag on my flagpole.
If you think the answer is no-please elaborate as to WHY it shouldn’t be done. and dont’ just say "it’s disrespectful" But elaborate how-I mean, I think it’s disrespectful to put my state’s flag beneath the federal one.
I’m adding this after reading some of the answers: Are you aware that the U.S. Flag code allows for the Christian Flag to be flown above the U.S. Flag on U.S. Navy Vessels? Also, just because there are federal regs about something doesn’t make it right. and finally it is NOT the "national" flag, it is the flag of the Federal level of Government and YES there is a BIG difference. And for those of you who think your country and your government are the same thing I guess I can see where you’re coming from.
my response to yahoo profile called "European". Yes, I know how federal regulations say to treat the Federal flag. I believe those federal regulations to be wrong and unconstitutional just like I believe that the gun-grabbing feds are wrong and unconstitutional and the abortion-funding feds are wrong and unconstitutional.

Yes, I think state flags should fly above the national flag. And if the Dem’s take both houses of Congress and the presidency in 2008, then I think the national flag should be raised no higher than half mast.

you should fly the American flag on top, then our state flag and then any other you desire. nothing should fly above the American flag

If, as you claim, you are an ex-military chap, then you KNOW that the National flag is always flown at the head of any flag-pole. It is NOT a question of State Sovereignity, NOR, from my readings, the 10th Amendment. It is a question of where you are living. If you are NOT an American, then fly your State flag highest, but why cheapen history by subjugating the national flag below local partisan loyalties? Do you also insult your flags by not raising at sunrise and taking down at sunset? Get two flag-poles, equal height, and you have NO PROBLEM. I am really surprised that a supposed ex-military chap, who should know military regulations, would NOT KNOW how to treat the National Flag.

I think that the federal flag and state flag should not be on the same flagpole unless by way of a jackstaff. which is like a flagpole jutting out from the main pole.
I think that in Heraldry the federal flag should be in the senior position. Contrary to popular opinion the senior position is the jackstaff.
For an example as a Brit if I flew my flag on us territory I wouldf have my flag on the main flagpole and the US flag on the jackstaff.
American forces in UK bases do just this the US flag on the main pole and the British flag in the senior position on the jackstaff

Two flags on the same flagpole show a defeat
If a Blue ship captured a Red ship in time of war the the blue flag would appear on the same mast (flagpole) above the red flag

Never. Flag protocol and tradition clearly states that the U.S. flag flies higher than others.
I have advice for those who dislike the federal government: vote.
I agree, the Federal government has become too powerfull, time for a move back to States rights
