Need help with youtube?
After spending a couple of hours trying to get some answers to questions, it appears to me that youtube is not the least bit interested in helping users. First, why do I have to make a Google account to use Youtube forums? Second, where can one complain about violations in people’s videos? The list of choices they give you under the flag menu does not include things like fraudulent use of official government logos. There appears to be virtually NO customer service.
I have a problem converting many downloaded videos to other file formats. They will only play on Real player. The message says a video stream is missing. Windows movie maker says I need some "codec." I don’t know where to get this.
Also, some of my videos aren’t uploading. I mostly use Pinnacle and after converting to the right kind of video format, they still won’t upload.
Any help would be appreciated.
Omega, I wasn’t aware that a video had to be lethal in order to be illegal. Wow, that’s really liberal! When people use official government logos, faked to look like they are attached to some film which is a hoax and a deliberate attempt to misinform, I would think that would be grounds for removing the video. But then, maybe I’m just a little too old-fashioned that way. Ya think?
Lester, thanks, I’ll give it a try.
Djayray500, that explains it! <chuckle>
Omega, thanks for the Firefox info. I’ll look for it. It seemed that Youtube would have no problem with people downloading videos since a little box that says "download this video" appears at the top of every video. I know that’s not youtube’s box but they must not have much of an objection to it.

I had the same convertign problems I downloaded the K-Lite codec file and installed it. It works on most videos but not everything.
Try searching "K-Lite codec pack" on google it’s 100% free
I hope this helps

Im not entirely sure why you require a google account, but im sure there is some valid reason. I have one and personally think everyone else should anyway. The google services are well worth the minute it takes to register one.
As far as the fraudulent use of official government logos, who cares? If there is a video out there with misused government logos, its not gonna kill anyone. If you -absolutely- must report it spam>misleading text seems close enough.
Also, youtube videos aren’t designed to be downloaded, so its not their fault if you cant get them to convert or play. You usually download them in the .flv or flash video format, which as far as i know isnt supported by WMP, perhaps VLC media player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) can but im not certain. If you want to download and use them, I recommend using the "download helper" add on for firefox and MediaCoder to transcode the video into any format you please.
How are they not uploading? Do you receive an error?
I hope any of this helps.

Edit:
I’m only being reasonable, half of the videos on youtube violate some copyright law or something of the sort. Could you give me an example as to one of these videos? I just don’t see the harm in them. Especially if anyone with common sense can tell its not really from the government (let alone that I doubt the government has a youtube account).
And if this box, which im not sure where its coming from, must be an add-on of some sort, wasn’t created by youtube, who’s to say they are aware of it? If they don’t know about it they can’t really object to it.

Youtube is owned by Google. There have been some complaints from the users dealing with customer service. There used to be a place where you could put in details in the help section, but now it’s just a forum.
If you want to make a certain type of video to be played on something else, right click the video where it is, click on properties, and click on the change button where it says open with.
Make sure that you have the correct format and that they are within the time limit of 10 minutes.

this will help you…. Use ‘zillatube’. This is the easiest (and also the fastest) way.
Zillatube produces mpg/mp3 video or sound formats from youtube that are compatible with windows movie maker(or windows media player), and more. Also for high quality conversion, use vcd mode to get good quality mpg file.
Just get those clips you want , save & convert them, and then mix/match with pix/sound/etc using windows movie maker(included in your windows machine) to create new masterpieces..
It is very easy to download and convert videos. Then edit those converted mpg videos with windows movie maker.
It works very well – http://www.zillatube.com

Download, convert and save videos directly from Youtube and more. Formats AVI, MPEG, MP4, 3GP, WMV, MP3, FLV, MOV, WAV
1. copy the video url (Example: http://www.youtu . . . .)
2. go to Forinside
3. paste the video url in the url box
4. select format (AVI, MPEG, MP4, 3GP, WMV, MP3, FLV, MOV, WAV)
5. Click download
* Moreover, it can convert local videos on your PC in the formats above.
Use Forinside

Hey Brant, for what ever this might be worth to you or any one else out there, I use "Media Player Classic" and "Media Player Classic Home Cinema: for ALL the videos I download.
I have yet to find any format out there that does not work on this player. The only exceptions to this I have come across are those movies that try and scam you into downloading a key code or joining some porno site in order to watch the movie or video.
When I come across one of these I simply DELETE it until I find one that is real.
I however, DO NOT download anything from YOUTUBE. I may be convinced to actually watch some of them but only if they play in my browser.
Hope that helps
