Kiss a door mat or door handle?
What is the meaning of these expressions?
What if I come to see somebody but there was nobody home. Can I say: I came and kissed the door handle?
Or what would you otherwise say in this situation?

I think they mean you are sopposed to be kissing up to someone, or begging for forgivness.
I think it means you can be with me in the relationship and give me kisses at the door or you can say forget this relationship and kiss the doorknob while I kick you out it’s kinda like don’t let the door knob hit you were the good lord split you.
