Is the American Flag disrespected?
Most people don’t realize we disrespect the flag in more ways than burning it in protest. If you’ve ever looked at one of the websites dedicated to the care of the flag,
http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html
you’ll see that the flag is abused every day. If the image of the Flag, a representation of the Flag, or any thing that remotely reminds you of the Flag is used in any way other than being an actual flag, it is disrespectful. Think about it. People use images of the Flag in many different ways. On plates, shirts, towels, logos, ads, etc. I’ve even seen a fire hydrant decorated like a flag. Some of our presidents have even written on the Flag with their signature. All of these ways lead to the Flag being mutilated, thrown away, or otherwise disrespected. What do you think of this issue? Is using the Flag in these ways disrespectful?

I don’t believe so because it’s not the actual flag and therefore normal rules don’t apply. Plus, normal flags get as much wear and tear as images of the flag.
It’s just like LoveFeast is not Communion so the same rules don’t apply.

YES! People treat the flag like it’s our corporate logo–or team mascot. When we disrespect the flag we are disrespecting the people who died that it might exist. I was shocked to see all the "spirit gear" that was produced after 9/11 and that folks bought it and used it without thinking. Things like beach towels (!?!) and folding chairs, napkins and kleenex and even underwear and swimming suits.

Displaying the image of the flag everywhere is not disrespectful
- far from it!
They are proud to be American.
