Do ANPR police follow up "hits"?
Just curious to know.
Went up a main road yesterday and passed a police-like van. It had something like "safer partnership" logo on the side and blue and yellow stripes. The 2 back windows were "lifted up" with what looked to be cameras poking out. I guess it was an ANPR van looking for motorists without tax/insurance etc.?
Thing is, it was a funny place to do surveillance. I.e. busy main road and on a bend with lots of side streets. I wondered whether any dodgy cars that it "flagged up" could just head up a side street and disappear in which case they wouldn’t get caught – or do they send a "summons" in the post as I know they do this for speeding.

It sounds like a mobile speed trap. They do use ANPR however to send speeding summons to the keeper. I’m not sure about insurnace tax etc. I assume they would radio a traffic car to pull you over for tax/insurance matters as they take the car off the road there and then.
