Why do people hate on those with Southern Pride?

We’re not all bigots, those people just use the battle flag as a crutch. I can wave around all the other confederate flags and no one would give a hoot! Do you think regular ol’ Johnny Reb had slaves? He sure as hell wasn’t fighting to keep slaves, he was fighting to perserve his freedoms, in the declaration of independence states that you are supposed to fight against a tyrannic power. The southern plantation owners kepts their slaves in good health and cared for them, for the slaves relied on them and they relied on the slaves. If anyone was mean to the slaves it was the overseers not the owners. Would you just buy a ferrari and beat it? The south is what makes our country great, and some of the greatest people have come from it. You come down here and we welcome you with open arms, yet we are still stereotyped as crazy racist rednecks? (although im a Cajun) As for the civil war, there were good and bad on both sides. So, why can’t we get leeway? Dixie, the pride not the prejudice.
RPM, I myself am not against any minority or majority, yes there are tensions with homosexual people down here, but Cajuns especially dont care at all, we welcome you all the same.Traditionalism is a great thing, it helps you remember those who were before you and reminds you to be thankful for them, although, like all things, can be bad if taken to an extreme. I just want to right a wrong thats been going on for almost the past 200 years. Also, heres a question for ya’ll, how come the Yankee’s have never gotten any bad reputation for Reconstruction? Shoot that was bear hell if anything, I mean Ben Butler was completely power corrupt. Also, on another note, the south originally wanted to be left alone, the civil war wouldve never happened if so. Slavery would have eventually been abolished, once the economy didnt need it. We were too close with the original laws laid down by our so revered fore fathers to not abolish it.

Your opinion on this please! From the one who thinks Bayliner is the anti-christ of boating. lol?

It is true… I am under the opinion that Bayliner boats are the absolute poorest quality boats ever made. However, I will give credit to Bayliner for their previous success even though they just filed bankruptcy. I understand, and can chalk that up to the hard financial times.

Bayliner’s original Corporate mission, was to build the most inexpensive boat on the market – and I truly believe they succeeded beyond even their own wildest dreams.

I confess, there is (obviously) a market for a Bayliner – and that of course is the brand new, first time boat owner. That is their stated market. They are good (if not the very best) at selling to this market. I give them all the credit in the world for their "business" savey.

However, for 42 years – I have been blessed – able to spend the majority of my time on the water, sailing, cruising, and at one Marina or the other. I can tell you without exception, Bayliner’s have:
1. the worst (non-collision with anything but water) damage,
2. the most boats, most often, in repair shops,
3. the absolute fastest "new" boats to look very old,
4. and the fastest destruction of seats, flooring, transoms, paint, upholstery, vinyl, metal, etc. caused by "nature" (ie: sun, water, mildew, rot, cracking, and normal wear and tear etc.)

I am the first to raise the flag of encouragement for the boating life and lifestyle to anyone and everyone. But… I just cringe, when I see some innocent, unsuspecting, first time boat owner spend good money for a Bayliner.

Furthermore… I have never known a first time boat owner with a Bayliner to ever buy another Bayliner… And while I am sure there are exceptions (by Bayliner’s own admission) 2nd time boat buyers that buy Bayliners are a rare occurance – even when their 1st boat was a Bayliner.

I believe this speaks "Volumes" regarding the owner’s satisfaction with the boat.

Same goes with "Marine Surveys" and buying "Cheap anything" that is critical to the operation of your boat… expecially, an off shore, ocean capable vessel… My son and I are always telling people to "Get that Marine Survery" and inevitably, we are the first ones they call for help – when they didn’t.

So… bring it on… If you want to eat my lunch, or if you want to add your "Bayliner" experience or opinion… it’s all welcome – I’ll do the best I can (agree with me or not) to give the points to the best reply…

i want to help people from the way america is?

First let me say sorry to the fact the some of my pnctuation keys dont work on my keyboard. and now for my question

i was watching a movie and these people got arested for helping other people illegally. and it inspired me to try and help people.
i hate the fact that just because something is illegal makes it wrong when in fact the government is the ones who are wrong.

i wont lie to you. i dont look like the kind of person who would give a rats ass but part of living in america is people judge you on how you look. im 21 years old, currently attending college at RCC. i started college and i was pretty proud of myself, but then i was denied a grant, my car broke down, bought a new car with the money i was going to pay some fines off which i will eplaine to you in a second. the new car i bought broke down i attended school for 2 weeks, i had to leave my job, not completely i still work one day out of the week. i haven been to school in 2 weeks now because of my situation and i dont want this to happen to other people. its hard in life to actually become something, even if you try to make something of you life there will always be something blocking you path as if its legal actions of the law holding you back or if its money issues and you have no where else to turn to.
as for the fine and when i went to jail. i recently moved to a new town and met some people and i was hanging out with them one night, uopn walking to the store he says to me "i want to show you something." he took me to the bar with the door open. at the time i didnt think how he knew the door was open or how he cam accross this. he takes me to this bar and opens the door and tries to get me to go inside. stupid me i go in and take a look around, we leave and go to the store then head back to his place. three days later the cops flag me down, he didnt want to make a scene so he didnt use his lights or anything he just pointed and said to pull in so i did. he asked me some questions and everything about it and he leaves. about a week later im at the part store napa getting some parts for my truck, to cops walk over and start padding me down and take me to jail. about a week after that i go in to see a public defender and he tells me that the guy i was with robbed the bar 3 times prior to the knight he showed me and broke the lock with a butchers knife and because i went in and took a look around i became a part of this criminal action.

another story….. one knight i was invited to drink with some friends i was 20. so were at the river and we are drinking and it starts getting out of hand so i offerend to drive every one home. yes i was drinking but i wasnt totally waisted. i went to get my vehicle and the walked half way down the river by the time i got there and there was another guy trying to help me get them home because he didnt want any one to get in trouble either. so i get there park my truck and try to gather evry body up then the cops roll in. blah blah blah at the and the end of the night i was the only one who got arrested and a ticket for it. not arested like jail but they put me in cuffs and drove around for hours….wouldnt let me go to the bathroom. but i still think thats kind of injustice. i didnt get in trouble for having my truck there or anything they gave me a 250 dollar ticket just because i was a minor drinking and none of the others got anything. most of them are girls and the cop that gave me the ticket went to jail for sexual harrasment so its probably because i was a guy. these are the situations i am talking about. in-justice of the law and government orgonizations.

i probably want to start out by helping poor people with bills school loans help buy food and things like that. and further more in the future get involved lawfully to help people that have been fucked over by the government.

how can i help people i can i make a better lving invoirment in the united states?

Instead Of Blaming The U.S. , Doncha Think Other Countries Should Payback Their Long Overdue Debts To Us ?

Originally broadcast in 1973, the following by a Canadian really puts things in perspective in terms of who really owes who .

The Americans – Gordon Sinclair

The United States dollar took another pounding on German, French and British exchanges this morning, hitting the lowest point ever known in West Germany. It has declined there by 41% since 1971 and this Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least-appreciated people in all the earth.

As long as sixty years ago, when I first started to read newspapers, I read of floods on the Yellow River and the Yangtse. Who rushed in with men and money to help? The Americans did.

They have helped control floods on the Nile, the Amazon, the Ganges and the Niger. Today, the rich bottom land of the Misssissippi is under water and no foreign land has sent a dollar to help. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy, were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of those countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When the franc was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When distant cities are hit by earthquakes, it is the United States that hurries into help… Managua Nicaragua is one of the most recent examples. So far this spring, 59 American communities have been flattened by tornadoes. Nobody has helped.

The Marshall Plan .. the Truman Policy .. all pumped billions upon billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now, newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent war-mongering Americans.

I’d like to see one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplanes.

Come on… let’s hear it! Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tristar or the Douglas 107? If so, why don’t they fly them? Why do all international lines except Russia fly American planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or women on the moon?

You talk about Japanese technocracy and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy and you find men on the moon, not once, but several times … and safely home again. You talk about scandals and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everyone to look at. Even the draft dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, most of them … unless they are breaking Canadian laws .. are getting American dollars from Ma and Pa at home to spend here.

When the Americans get out of this bind … as they will… who could blame them if they said ‘the hell with the rest of the world’. Let someone else buy the Israel bonds, Let someone else build or repair foreign dams or design foreign buildings that won’t shake apart in earthquakes.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name to you 5,000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble.

Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don’t think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbours have faced it alone and I am one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles.

I hope Canada is not one of these. But there are many smug, self-righteous Canadians. And finally, the American Red Cross was told at its 48th Annual meeting in New Orleans this morning that it was broke.

This year’s disasters .. with the year less than half-over… has taken it all and nobody…but nobody… has helped.

Are older people necessarily wiser when it comes to practical decisions?

I’m 22 and my husband is 25; I cannot believe how many times we’ve been told not to do certain things and/or have been judged by other adults (generally people over 30) without merit.

Here’s an example:
My husband and I used to live in northern Delaware and we were going to a church just over the border in Elkton, MD at the time. My husband was getting ready to graduate from the University of Delaware with his computer science degree when word slipped out in the church that we were planning on moving to Huntsville, Alabama. A woman in her 50′s we barely knew, confronted us at a church dinner insisting that it was absolutely a bad idea to move and that financially we would be much better off, living for some bizarre reason, in Maryland versus Delaware or any other state. Our plan had been in the works for the better part of a year and we had thus collected and evaluated STACKS of data on not only Huntsville but numerous other cities throughout the south. Based upon our ranked criteria (1. ratio of engineering jobs to population, 2. cost of housing, 3. overall tax burden, 4. population density, 5. average commute times and 6. distance to rural areas,), Huntsville won hands down. She refused to listen to me when I was able to show concrete evidence from several sources that refuted her claims that Maryland was the best place to live. Apparently she had allowed her daughter to screw up royally by getting into drugs and making several children whose fathers are still unknown. She claimed that she wanted to "save us" from a bad decision because she had allowed her daughter to be irresponsible. I don’t think moving to a new city when you have marketable skills and a job waiting there is "irresponsible".

I’ll admit, I’ve made mistakes but seriously, if you can’t get something major right the first time don’t go into overkill and give unwanted and unwarranted advice. I encountered the same thing while I was taking a first time home buyer class at a local community center here in Huntsville. When I mentioned that my husband and I were specifically looking at houses that had been sitting on the market for awhile because of the potential for finding a good deal, an older woman spoke up and said that we were just asking for trouble. Apparently she had bought a home without getting a proper home inspection and ended up loosing it to foreclosure because she couldn’t afford the major repairs that popped up. What bone head buys a house without having it inspected first anyway? Plus, this class had a very easy ("duh" type information, nothing serious) 60 question multiple choice test at the end; I got all of the questions right while the woman only got about half of them. That irked me further because she obviously didn’t do her homework the first time she bought a house and couldn’t even get the test right but felt the need to judge me for my well researched decision.

My husband and I are very handy people and see repairs as an adventure to learn new skills. We actually just bought a house that had been on the market for almost 18 months (fully inspected by a licensed home inspector and found to be in good condition) at a considerable discount. Houses are a hit or miss game and its hard to spot the junkers from the jewels unless you really look. Time on the market doesn’t necessarily flag a house as good or bad because there’s a sucker born every day.

This is all 10 months since the first example and it seems like I’ve proved those people and the others not mentioned wrong. I do take advice, only advice that I can prove is actually valid. Does older REALLY mean wiser?

Whats Your Opinion of these Folks?

I went to wash some new shirts I bought. A major brand. I went to read the washing instructions and I can’t. I’m single lingual. I would like to send my laundry to Washington D.C., but they generate plenty of their own dirty laundry . The last American out of Washington D.C. bring the flag.

Sage: Apparently you didn’t read your link. It says partly true. Which is what your answer is. They tabled the S.S. issue, not the English only issue.
Liz. I have 30 years in Law Enforcement on the Ca, Az, Mexico Border. I would like to meet one person that has had their rights violated by the P.A. It sure has stopped attacks. The Sears Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge to name two. It is easier for a Police Officer to get a warrant to search your home from an anonyms tip than it is for Federal Law Enforcement to invoke the Act.
Liz: The typical illegal family uses close to ,000 more a year in Government services than they pay in taxes. We are not talking about legal alliens that want to become citizens and assimilate, if you can find one.

is there a way to see if a housing development is surrounded by a wall?

my friend lives in a devlopment, pretty new, only like 10-20 yrs old. it has 110-120 homes. but this is the thing. it has a brick wall around the whole community, which i guess isnt technically a development. they also have a pit to gather water and a bunch of flags in a line when u enter, and a black and gold sign saying the name at the entrance. now if i wanted to buy a home just like that but in another part of the state would they tell me (online) if they had a brick wall around it? how many homes? b/c i really like this community he lives in but is too much. any ideas? answer my questions too. do all these communties need to have a wall around them? it isnt gated (thats senior communites) and doesnt have a Gate around it.
wow u guys dont even read its NOT GATED!!!!!

why is Scotland so desperate to be independant?

i’m english and i went to scotland on holiday last week. i realised when i was there how raring scotland is to become its own independant state and people have always said the english hate the scottish and vice versa, but why? as in what are the historical reasons for it?

for example in politics you have the BNP (British National Party) and the SNP (Scottish National Party). is scotland not part of britain? i guess the SNP wants scotland to be its own free state, so does the BNP not include scotland in its views?

i know the scottish are a very proud nation but whereas if you bought a souvenir in London it would probably have the Union Jack on it (British Flag), in scotland all souvenirs contain the scottish flag and there is no sign of the Union Jack anywhere

so why is scotland so desperate to be independant? sorry if it seems a bit ignorant or whatever just im curious as to the general reasons why – i know this doesnt apply to every Scot, just it seems the majority feel this way

Why can't the BBC schedule The Wire properly, idiots?

To laud yourselves for the acquisition of The Wire, then hamstring the potential audience for this by such harebrained scheduling beggars belief. This is a huge show. Why not ten o’clock, I understand you cannot move Newsnight, so why not BBC three or four, plus a later showing on BBC two? Maybe even a catch-up on one of these channels?

Many of us who are unable to pay for DVD box sets or satellite subscriptions (but who do pay a license fee), have been hearing about, then yearning for a chance to see this show. The complex, involved nature of the format means that to miss one episode is to be cast hopelessly adrift. A whole audience in front of their television sets at eleven-twenty every night for sixty episodes? So the BBC has chosen to render their biggest buy-in of one of the biggest TV shows of recent years impotent. Really?

Channel four built a reputation for excellent programming on creative buy-ins, good scheduling. Don’t repeat the same mistake you made with Seinfeld. Given the state of your current out-put, how weak your own drama is these days, should you not think about using resources, like the import of a critically acclaimed show, to bolster your flagging schedules, especially if you consider how thinly you’re spreading weak programming over multi channels? Can you honestly imagine Channel Four buying this show, and then scheduling it this way? Or do you think they might look to achieve sustained attainable ratings? Perhaps the thought of a large audience watching an imported show, is still thought of as being a little crass at the BBC.

As to the fiasco of this show not being available on iplayer, better to have not bought the show than embarrass your implementation of iplayer, with a limitation that cripples the application at exactly the point at which it should have come into it’s own. If you cannot buy something on reasonable terms, please do not waste my money on it. I would find it very unsurprising if the same contract that stops you from streaming the show, forbids repeats and stipulated the ridiculous scheduling of 60 episodes, back to back, as everything here seems contrived to force viewers wishing to see the show to buy the box set. Perhaps the BBC has now taken on advertising, for HBO products.

Ahh… Do you remember when Channel Four bought the Sopranos? Golden days, golden days.
