help!!!!!!!!emergency can somone help decipher this poem?

I am the flag of the United States of America.
My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world’s tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America’s halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom.
I am confident.
I am arrogant.
I am proud.

When I am flown with my fellow banners, my head is a little higher, my colors a little truer.

I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped – I am saluted.
I am loved – I am revered.
I am respected – and I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war for more then 200 years.
I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appamatox.
I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy, Guam.
Okinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me; I was there.
I led my troops, I was dirty, battleworn and tired, but my soldiers cheered me and I was proud.

I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free. It does not hurt, for I am invincible.

I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my country. And when it’s by those whom I’ve served in battle – it hurts.

But I shall overcome – for I am strong.

I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon.

I have borne silent witness to all of America’s finest hours. But my finest hours are yet to come.

When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield, when I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldiers, or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter, I am proud.

MY NAME IS OLD GLORY LONG MAY I WAVE.
DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN LONG MAY I WAVE.

Did Your Teachers Speak About 9/11 In Your School?

They make a HUGE deal about it in my school since I live in Manhattan. My homeroom teacher on Friday spoke about it. After we said the pledge our principal named some people who passed away during 9/11 and we had 10 minutes of silence. My language arts teacher had us right a short report about where we were and what we were doing during 9/11. Then my history teacher spoke about it. At lunch we had American Flag cookies and they were playing songs about America like, "God Bless America", "Star Spangled Banner", and a few others. Then at the last half hour of the day everyone gathered in the gym for a short memorial. The school band was there playing some songs. Then they had some kids (they looked about 10) speaking about how their parents died, or their uncle, or aunt, or brother, etc. died in 9/11. It was sad. I’m 14 and I moved to Manhattan from Brooklyn when I was 8. They make a bigger deal about it here then they did in Brooklyn.

Have anyone noticed how similar Percy Jackson is compared to Harry Potter?

Percy and Harry = loyal

Annabeth and Hermione = smart

Grover and Ron = maybe funny..

Tyson and Neville = Clumsy

Chiron and Dumbledore = Helpful or whatever

- Percy has two close friends, one is the know it all girl(Hermione), and the other is a bumbling guy(Ron).

- Percy attends a Half-Blood camp where other half-bloods like him train(Hogworts).

- The camps are broken in different bunks(Houses) which compete against each other in games, most famously Capture the Flag(Quidditch)where the winner has their banners hung everywhere.

- One house is full of mean kids who Percy doesn’t get along with(Slytherin).

- Percy and friends utilize an invisibility cap(invisibility cloak).

- At the end, it is revealed that Kronos, described as a great evil of the past, might be returning(Voldomort).

Is there any ALLEGORY in the poem A Brave and Startling Truth by Maya Angelou?

A Brave and Startling Truth
Maya Angelou
American Poet, Author and Actress

We, this people, on a small and lonely planet
Traveling through casual space
Past aloof stars, across the way of indifferent suns
To a destination where all signs tell us
It is possible and imperative that we learn
A brave and startling truth

And when we come to it
To the day of peacemaking
When we release our fingers
From fists of hostility
And allow the pure air to cool our palms

When we come to it
When the curtain falls on the minstrel show of hate
And faces sooted with scorn are scrubbed clean
When battlefields and coliseum
No longer rake our unique and particular sons and daughters
Up with the bruised and bloody grass
To lie in identical plots in foreign soil

When the rapacious storming of the churches
The screaming racket in the temples have ceased
When the pennants are waving gaily
When the banners of the world tremble
Stoutly in the good, clean breeze

When we come to it
When we let the rifles fall from our shoulders
And children dress their dolls in flags of truce
When land mines of death have been removed
And the aged can walk into evenings of peace
When religious ritual is not perfumed
By the incense of burning flesh
And childhood dreams are not kicked awake
By nightmares of abuse

When we come to it
Then we will confess that not the Pyramids
With their stones set in mysterious perfection
Nor the Gardens of Babylon
Hanging as eternal beauty
In our collective memory
Not the Grand Canyon
Kindled into delicious color
By Western sunsets

Nor the Danube, flowing its blue soul into Europe
Not the sacred peak of Mount Fuji
Stretching to the Rising Sun
Neither Father Amazon nor Mother Mississippi who, without favor,
Nurture all creatures in the depths and on the shores
These are not the only wonders of the world

When we come to it
We, this people, on this minuscule and kithless globe
Who reach daily for the bomb, the blade and the dagger
Yet who petition in the dark for tokens of peace
We, this people on this mote of matter
In whose mouths abide cankerous words
Which challenge our very existence
Yet out of those same mouths
Come songs of such exquisite sweetness
That the heart falters in its labor
And the body is quieted into awe

We, this people, on this small and drifting planet
Whose hands can strike with such abandon
That in a twinkling, life is sapped from the living
Yet those same hands can touch with such healing, irresistible tenderness
That the haughty neck is happy to bow
And the proud back is glad to bend
Out of such chaos, of such contradiction
We learn that we are neither devils nor divines

When we come to it
We, this people, on this wayward, floating body
Created on this earth, of this earth
Have the power to fashion for this earth
A climate where every man and every woman
Can live freely without sanctimonious piety
Without crippling fear

When we come to it
We must confess that we are the possible
We are the miraculous, the true wonder of this world
That is when, and only when
We come to it.

Does anyone see anything crazy about this?

If I change the name "HITLER" to Obama, and "Germany" to America…. This is scary as it could be an article written today about Obama. http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar2/riseofhitler/elect.htm

Obama and the Democrats waged a modern whirlwind campaign in 2008 unlike anything ever seen in America. Obama traveled the country delivering dozens of major speeches, attending meetings, shaking hands, signing autographs, posing for pictures, and even kissing babies.

The Democratic Party brilliantly organized thousands of meetings, torchlight parades, plastered posters everywhere and printed millions of copies of special editions of American newspapers.

America was in the grip of the Economic Meltdown with a population suffering from poverty, misery, and uncertainty, amid increasing political instability.

For Obama, the master speech maker, the long awaited opportunity to let loose his talents on the American people had arrived. He would find in this downtrodden people, an audience very willing to listen. In his speeches, Obama offered the American what they needed most, encouragement. He gave them heaps of vague promises while avoiding the details. He used simple catchphrases, repeated over and over.

His campaign appearances were carefully staged events. Audiences were always kept waiting, deliberately letting the tension increase, only to be broken by solemn processions of Brownshirts with golden banners, blaring military music, and finally the appearance of Obama amid shouts of "OBAMA!!" The effect in a closed in hall with theatrical style lighting and decorations of flags was overwhelming and very catching.

Obama began each speech in low, hesitating tones, gradually raising the pitch and volume of his voice then exploding in a climax of frenzied indignation. He combined this with carefully rehearsed hand gestures for maximum effect. He skillfully played on the emotions of the audience bringing the level of excitement higher and higher until the people wound up a wide-eyed, screaming, frenzied mass that surrendered to his will and looked upon him with pseudo-religious adoration.

Obama offered something to everyone; work to the unemployed, prosperity to failed business people, profits to industry, expansion to the Army, social harmony and an end of class distinctions to idealistic young students, and restoration of American glory to those in despair. He promised to bring order amid chaos, a feeling of unity to all and the chance to belong. He would make America strong again, end payment of war reparations to the Allies, tear up the treaty of Versailles, stamp out corruption, keep down Marxism, and deal harshly with the Rich.

He appealed to all classes of Americans.

All of the Democrats, from Obama, down to the leader of the smallest city block, worked tirelessly, relentlessly, to pound their message into the minds of the Americans

FREAKING SCARY !!!!!!!.

Well if I Insert Nathan W, it doesnt make sense.

I dont give Speeches, I dont go to the Masses, no one cheers "NATHAN W" when I walk into a room. I am not telling people what they want to hear. I am not trying to get elected. Ect Ect ….

So it wouldnt make any sense, and no comparison.

What is the paragraph summary about this news?

Forget "Have a nice day", it’s service with a snarl that most travellers have come to expect at US airports. But, as increased security measures and a reputation for rude immigration officials are becoming a turn-off for international visitors, New York City has gone on a charm offensive to win them back.

New York’s mayor, Michael Bloomberg, determined not to let "a few bad apples" tarnish the city’s reputation, has launched a .7m celebrity-endorsed drive to "bring tourism back to a local level".

The new Just Ask the Locals campaign aims to make the city more hospitable and is being fronted by celebrities, including actors Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore. Visitors can access their insiders’ tips via a special phone line and website, on handout maps, or on short videos in the back of city taxis. The city will also be sending out 50 street teams of "ambassadors".

Many of the celebrities’ tips are standard guidebook fare ("Most delis are open 24 hours", "Want to get to know downtown? Walk"), but it is hoped that tourists will take the slogan more literally and, seeing as De Niro is unlikely to be available, will start asking people they come across on the streets.

"New Yorkers have always been welcoming and friendly, but not enough people around the world know it," says Mayor Bloomberg. Residents are being reminded of their duty with banners that have appeared all over town.

Mayor Bloomberg says that the campaign aims to prove "not everything is in midtown Manhattan" and will start spreading the news across all five boroughs: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. It also flags up all sorts of little-known neighbourhoods, including Little Neck and Flatbush.

The mayor has been on a big drive for tourism since taking office in 2001, with a goal of receiving 50 million visitors a year by 2015. Although the US has experienced a 17% decline in inbound international tourism nationwide last year (with British numbers falling by a quarter since 2000), New York’s own figures have increased by 9%. The city now draws 18% of the total of overseas visitors, but 45% of all money spent.

Bloomberg admits that to entice visitors to New York "the experience of entering the country has to change". Last month, US security procedures came in for even more criticism after the nation’s 43,000 airport screeners were advised to scrutinise anyone wearing a head covering that might hide explosives — a directive that was not welcomed by the country’s Sikh community.

New York is also addressing the issue of airport overcrowding with its newly opened .3bn American Airlines terminal at John F Kennedy airport. Eight years in the making, it is the biggest investment the airport has seen in decades, with capacity for up to 13 million passengers a year.

Overcrowding is still a problem across New York airports, but Mayor Bloomberg dismissed a proposed solution involving flight rationing. "We want more flights coming into this city. Keeping people from coming doesn’t make any sense for anyone," he sai
